Project: Loft conversion and ground floor remodelling, Northfields

The brief:

The clients required a loft conversion, and wanted the cramped kitchen to be replaced and the living area remodelled to provide as much space as possible.

The solution:

The clients felt that it was important that the loft conversion, which consists of one bedroom and a separate shower room, was to feel connected to the rest of the house. This was achieved by allowing plenty of space around the stairs and landing in keeping with the dimensions of the lower floor stairs.

On the ground floor a large opening was created in the wall dividing the dinning area and living room. Sliding doors were installed, which when open disappear into the adjacent walls, providing a greater amount of adaptability. The increased size of the kitchen, with a large corner window and an additional area with large French windows leading out onto the garden all combines to increase the feeling of space and light.

T o define the different areas, timber flooring leads from the hallway into the dining and kitchen, with carpet in the living area.
