Project: Loft Conversion and house
refurbishment & reorganisation - Acton
The brief: To create an office space/guest room plus wet room in a very small loft space, and completely remodel the downstairs area to reclaim natural light and a flexible family area. The solution: The first phase of this project was to convert the very tight loft space. The floor area had to be divided into two areas because of the ceiling heights below; an office space was created out of the lower area and we designed a sleeping platform with flat roof light above out of the upper area. Originally the wet room was only going to have a shower, but with careful planning a WC and handbasin could also be incorporated. The second phase was the reorganisation of the rest of the house. Previous owners had demolished the walls between the ground floor reception rooms and hall, creating one large cavernous space. This was redefined into two areas, using a partition with sliding doors to provide flexibility. In order to provide some natural light for the kitchen, the wall between the kitchen and reception rooms was taken down, allowing in light from the front of the house, and providing a dining area. The first floor bathroom, ground floor WC and utility room were also remodelled. The project included advising on and sourcing fixtures, fittings and choice of colours. |
